NCPDP Standards Table Data is comma-separated machine parsable files for the NCPDP Data Dictionary (DD) and External Code Lists (ECL) beginning with the 201601 versions.

The Table Data files are normalized raw data intended to be imported into existing computer applications and databases by developers. They are not designed to be opened and read in spreadsheet programs such as Excel. The files have a tag line and carriage return/line feed structure that needs to be machine read with a simple programming script. Processing and importing the Table Data is a task for developers.

The Data Dictionary includes three data files – Header, Detail and Free Form. A Readme.txt is included with an explanation of the file layouts.

How do I know to which version of a standard to purchase and subscribe?

NCPDP Standards Table Data are based on a specific standard by specific version. Order the version of the standard you are currently using or the one you will be implementing which may not be the most recent version available.

No earlier or later Data Dictionary publications are relevant. Except for the Telecommunication Standard Version D.0, your subscription will include the applicable Data Dictionary.

The External Code Lists can be applied to a version of a standard starting with the date of approval/release and subsequent future publications. For example, if a version of a standard is approved and released in October 2017, the October 2017 publication of the ECL is the first applicable publication that may be used for the version of the standard. All future publications of the ECL can also be used unless specifically noted by data element or value limitations within each ECL publication. Your subscription will include all past applicable ECL versions plus any released during the subscription period.
